Activate 5G Speed Booster

You can activate the 5G Speed Booster via MyDigi app. 

 

Steps to upgrade 5G:

  • Step 1: Download and launch MyDigi app
  • Step 2: Go to "Buy Add-Ons"
  • Step 3: Choose "5G Speed Booster" and confirm purchase
  • Step 4: Receive SMS that 5G has successfully activated on your line

Have a 5G compatible device

 

You need to be on a 5G compatible device to be able to enjoy Digi 5G. You can access the 5G compatible models here, under 5G Supported Devices section.

 

If you do not have a 5G compatible device, you can check out Digi’s latest 5G device bundles here. Look out for devices with 5G in the device’s names.

 

Currently 5G is compatible with selected Android models, stay tuned as more devices are enabled over time.

Activate 5G network setting on your phone

 

5G network setting should be activated on your phone by default. 

 

But if it’s not, you may need to manually turn on Digi 5G in your device, follow the steps below (exact steps may vary according to device brands and model): 

  1. Settings
  2. Connection
  3. Mobile Network 
  4. Network Mode
  5. Switch to 5G/LTE/3G/2G (Auto Connect)

Use an eligible SIM card or eSIM 

If your SIM can access 4G network, then your SIM can support Digi 5G. 

 

You can also enjoy Digi 5G if you are on an eSIM. 

 

Should you need to upgrade your SIM, you can visit your nearest Digi Store to upgrade your SIM.

Be within the 5G coverage area

You can enjoy Digi 5G when you’re within the 5G coverage area. You can check the 5G coverage here.


If you fulfil all the criteria above, you will see a 5G icon on the status bar of your device.

1. What’s the Internet speed difference between 4G and 5G?

5G offers greater bandwidth, low-latency connectivity with super-fast speeds up to 10x faster than 4G. This means video streaming will be faster and video calls will have little to no lag / drop in frame. 


Test Digi 5G’s speeds with no quota consumption via Digi Speedtest service (https://st.digi.com.my/). Speed test done on different test providers might incur higher quota consumption.



2. Will I consume more data with Digi 5G?

With the increase in download speed, it could feel like more data is being consumed. However, that is NOT true. If a file requires 1GB of data to download on 4G, it will use the same 1GB of data to download it on 5G. It just downloads faster!


With Digi 5G, your quota consumption may increase depending on your usage and type of content. With streaming apps for example, you may consume higher internet quota due to better resolution. e.g. Video streaming on the same video in 4K could take up to 4x more data compared to a Full HD@1080p version. 

 


3. Can I use hotspot Internet with Digi 5G?

Yes, you can use hotspot Internet with Digi 5G, as long as your plan permits it. 



4. Can I still connect to 4G network after activating Digi 5G on my plan? 

If you are eligible for Digi 5G, all quotas you currently have will be accessible on both 4G and 5G, depending on the coverage area that you are in. For example, if your plan has 4GB data per month, you’ll have 4GB of data to use at the fastest speed possible at the time, whether it’s 4G or 5G.



5. Does Digi 5G affect add-ons and plans with a speed cap?

If your quota is on a speed cap, the speed cap will continue to apply.

1. How do I know if Digi 5G is activated on my plan? 

After subscribing to Digi 5G via MyDigi, you will receive an SMS to indicate that it’s activated. 

In addition, you can also check via MyDigi: 

  1. Select the menu button on the top left of the screen
  2. Select ‘Settings’
  3. Select ‘My Subscription’
  4. Able to see ‘Free 5G Speed Booster’



2. Can I deactivate Digi 5G on my plan?

Yes, you may do so via MyDigi. You may follow the same steps as above and toggle OFF on the ‘Free 5G Speed Booster’.



3. How do I turn off 5G network connection on my device? 

If you are already on Digi 5G and wishes to turn off, you can manually switch off Digi 5G by following the steps below (exact steps may vary according to device brands and model):
